The United States went undefeated at the 2016 Women’s Volleyball NORCECA Qualification Tournament. The four team tournament played in a round robin format with the winner of the tournament qualifying to the Olympics. The Women’s Volleyball NORCECA Qualification Tournament was held in Lincoln, United States from January 7th to January 9th 2015.
Top teams United States and Dominican Republic were able to win their first two matches relatively easily as both finished ahead of Canada and Puerto Rico. Canada was only able to take a set away from the Dominican Republic while Puerto Rico removed a set against both nations.
In the final set of matches Puerto Rico was able to sweep Canada after a very close first set which went past 25 to finish 32-30. The other two matches were relatively much easier for Puerto Rico to win. The United States would go on to win the tournament with a sweep as they continue to show that they are still the most powerful nation in the region.
The United States will be looking to upgrade its silver medals that it has won over the past two Olympics to win its first Olympic gold medal. The Dominican Republic will get a second chance to qualify at the World Qualification Tournament while Puerto Rico will get a chance to qualify at the Intercontinental Qualification Tournament.
